What a safety supervisor does on site

  • Supervises safe work practices at the work face, trade by trade
  • Checks that permit conditions and method statements are being followed
  • Stops and escalates unsafe work, and records what was found
  • Runs toolbox briefings with the gangs on his area
  • Supports the WSH Coordinator and WSH Officer on the project
  • Keeps the daily records your project requires

Where safety supervisors are deployed

Construction sites with several trades working at once, shipyards and fabrication yards, process plants during shutdowns and turnarounds, and projects where a specific work activity needs its own supervision on the ground.

Larger projects take more than one — one per zone, per shift, or per high-risk activity. Tell us how the site is split and we will tell you what we would deploy.

What the supervisor holds

Supervisors are supplied with the safety training required for the work and the site they are deployed on, and records are sent before deployment for your file.

How deployment works

  1. 1
Tell us the site, — the trades, the shift pattern and your start date.
  2. 2
We screen — against the requirement and send training records.
  3. 3
The supervisor reports — to site and works under your supervision.

How a safety supervisor is charged

Day or monthly rate depending on duration and shift pattern, with overtime handled separately. Night shift and weekend cover are quoted separately where required.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between a safety supervisor and a WSH Coordinator?▾
The supervisor works at the work face, supervising safe work on his trade or zone. The coordinator covers the site more broadly — records, permits, briefings and reporting across the project.
2. Can you supply supervisors for night shift?▾
Yes. Tell us the shift pattern and we will quote on that basis, including weekend cover where it is needed.
3. How many supervisors does a site need?▾
It depends on how the site is split by zone, shift and high-risk activity, and on the conditions attached to your project. Send us the site layout and programme and we will tell you what we would deploy.
4. What training do your supervisors have?▾
They are supplied with the safety training required for the work and site they are deployed on, with records sent before deployment.
5. Do they work for us or for IET?▾
They remain IET employees on IET’s payroll and pass, and work on your site under your supervision.
6. Can we take a supervisor for a short shutdown?▾
Yes. Fixed-duration deployments for shutdowns and turnarounds are normal work for us.
