When a project needs an ECO

Appointment of an Environmental Control Officer is tied to the type and scale of the project. Requirements change, so confirm your project’s position against NEA’s current requirements, or send us the project details and we will point you to the relevant guidance.

In practice, contractors come to us at three moments: when a new project award carries the condition, when an existing ECO resigns mid-project, and when an inspection has flagged gaps that need covering quickly.

What the officer holds

We supply officers who hold valid NEA registration for the role they are deployed on. Registration and training records are sent with the deployment so your project team can file them.

How it works

  1. 1
Tell us the project — site, scope, duration and the date you need the officer.
  2. 2
We screen — against your requirement and send the candidate’s registration and training records.
  3. 3
The officer report — s to your site and works to your programme under your supervision.

How an ECO is charged

ECOs are charged on a monthly or day-rate basis depending on whether the appointment is full-time to one project or shared across sites, with overtime handled separately. Send the project scope and duration and we will set out the basis that applies.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is an Environmental Control Officer?▾

Sometimes, depending on the projects and the conditions attached to each. Tell us the sites and durations and we will tell you whether one appointment can cover both.
4. What registration does the officer hold?▾
We supply officers who hold valid NEA registration for the role they are deployed on, and we send the records with the deployment.
5. Can IET supply an ECO for a short project?▾
Yes. Short and fixed-duration appointments are a normal part of this work. Tell us the window and we will quote on that basis.
6. How is an ECO charged?▾
Monthly or day rate, depending on whether the appointment is full-time to one project or shared. Overtime is handled separately.
6. Does the officer work for us or for IET?▾
